How To Deal With Telemarketers and Market Researchers

I was having a conversation with a friend recently and she told me she had to answer the phone early in the morning and one of the calls was from a Telemarketer. It got me thinking.

 

Here are some suggestions on how you can combat this intrusion into your privacy:

 

1. Put the phone down and walk away, it is their money they are spending, so let them talk to themselves.
2. Lay a turned on vibrator next to the phone and walk away.
3. Tell them they have contacted the local police station and ask them for the company details, their name, their position in the company, how long they have worked there and that you will be contacting their Supervisor shortly.
4. Tell them the phone has been disconnected and give them the phone number of the local police station.
5. Clip the phone to the outside of a bird cage and walk away.
6. Lay the phone next a turned on radio, music is so soothing.
7. Play their game and ask them lots of questions that are meaningless.
8. Give them the phone number of a good Psychiatrist and tell them your wife/husband works there and that is who they should talk to, then hang up.
9. Give them the phone number of your local Politician.
10. Tell them this is the local pizza shop and ask them what they would like to order.

 

I am sure you can think of many more things.

 

Profile ToS Disclaimers

When you joined SecondLife, you agreed to abide by the Linden Lab Terms of Service, commonly referred to as the ToS. Whether you read it or not, as soon as you accessed SecondLife you became bound by the ToS.

 

So any disclaimer you have in your profile is meaningless. You can contact Linden Lab to verify this if you wish.

 

Section 4 of the Community Standards states this:

 

Disclosure

Residents are entitled to a reasonable level of privacy with regard to their Second Life experience. Sharing personal information about your fellow Residents without their consent -- including gender, religion, age, marital status, race, sexual preference, alternate account names, and real-world location beyond what is provided by them in their Resident profile -- is not allowed. Remotely monitoring conversations in Second Life, posting conversation logs, or sharing conversation logs without the participants' consent are all prohibited.

 

While it doesn't mention local chat conversations, local chat conversations cannot be shared.
